So, I've been plotting since Feburary on what to do about this carPC. Yesterday was my first day of major stress so i figured it was time to start my thread.
Short Background:
Im a computer programmer, but not one of those geeeky ones, im one of those cool ones that goes to the gym, plays sports, goes to the club, and has a girlfriend, becaus i am good loooking.
I have no experience in the electrical department, other than circuits 101 i took in college 3 years ago. I also have no experience with fiberglass bondo, or anything else that smells and molds into shapes
That said, my friend tim will be my partner on this project, he knows electrical stuff and has been working on compentition pick up trucks for the past 5 years, and has always been good at running wires in systems, and knows the fiber glass stuff also.
So with our heads together, this should come out pretty darn sweet.

This is my first system, after installing and seeing how goes it i may upgrade, but well see.

RADEON 9800 PRO 128 MB AGP Card(a bit overkill maybe? but i want smooth video and i got a good deal on it)

gamepad for my nes,gen emulators ( i bet i can beat contra while driving ; ) thats what i tell my mom any way, she doesnt think its funny tho.)
Right now everything works GREAT, perfect even. Only thing before installing
that i want to fix is boot time, right now its booting at like a min with hibernate, becasue i cant set my bios to not do auto on my harddrive, when i enter it manually it freezes before i can save and exit. anyone ever had this problem? i still need to research that.
I will try my best to post pics and note the obstacles i stumble over so that it may be a help for anyone trying this at home.

but anyway, im not sure what your beef is with the Video card or my ram. Its in there and everything i have is working perfectly right now. im sure things could be better, and one day i will have the ultimate machine, but for now, im completely happy with how my computer runs. And maybe i dont undertsand something but, where are u getting "32mb of ram" from? my card is 128MB.

haha u edited your post it had 32mb of ram in your original post. now your post says 352. i have no beef with your video card infact its good video card. its does pretty decent 3d graphics. i would still up the ram. 512 is about the min that i would run. and as far as video graphics running a dvd movie etc has very little to do with what kind of graphics card but rather how fast your processor is.

I decided id rip everything out of the trunk and post pics, like everyone else has done for the E46, and that would infact start my thread, but then yesterday happened.
I spent sooo much time on trouble shooting that i said i might as well start my thread now. Plus this will help me stay on top of my check points.
First thing, i wake up at 8am on sunday, and say hey lets play wit the pc, then rip the trunk apart. well lets say i didnt get to the trunk.
First issue. Hibernation on windows 2000. it wouldnt work, i dont know why, everytime i tried to restart, it would give me the BOSD.
Stop 0x0000007A or KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR
im like boooo, so after trying to figure it out for a few i said i might as welll upgrade to XP. I was worried being that all my setup is already on the machine, frodo and all applications and whatever.
so i do it, and after install it wont boot into windows, it blue screens again! with a different area, saying cant find img something or other, i
and get nothing, so i delete the file it was dis-liking, and it starts to reinstalll xp again, im like ok cool go go go.
now it installs and still wont boot, its missing file lz32.dll, so i download and copy that file, now it boots PERFECTLY . . . WHEW!!!!
now i take a hour break to play some GT4, that Nike Car is cool, but i digress . . .
next, time to see what devices got mucked up in the upgrade. . .ehh no first lets just install service pack2. so I begin to install, NOPE, windows product key is invalid, APPARENTLY i dont have a un-pirated version of xp
then i look, i thought i was screwed, but then found out there is a process to change the product key, so i did it and bam im good, whew!!
almost there now my wireless isnt working and my touchscreen stopped(both were working in win2000)
i fixed the wireless pretty easy, the services werent turned on. touch screen was more difficult.
I couldnt install the software, because everytime i clicked setup, i got an error saying, error installing IKERNEL.
how the FLIP am i supposed to install it when it wont install!
long story short, i had to delete the engine folder under program files\common files\installsheild\
and run a program called ikernelupdate.exe which i got from www.installshield.com
now thats done, and everything is working good except for some reason Frodo's set1 ignores me when i click it, set2 works fine, if i dont hear any tips i will try to reinstall it : (
sorry if this is boring but its for me as much as it is for anyone that is bored at work, or thinking of doing a bmw install.
