Hi, been working on this for a few weeks now and just got it in the car. I've still got the main loom to install along the sill and a few PC bits to sort out along with an anoying audio whine. More pictures will be posted when I've time.

In the US, the body style didn't change until 1998's model year (purchases after September usually are named for the next year). My 1997 Passat doesn't look like yours, it's a B4, yours looks like a B5... and I got REALLY excited when I saw this thread.
BTW: NICE job! I really like how you've put a USB port on the dash!
Nice!!! Why didn't you move the AC control down? I think you woud've got a better viewing angle. I like the usb too. :)
Hi, Yea mines an early B5 (June 97), they changed between '96 - '97 in Europe.
Thanks, I plan to find some black countersunk screws to neaten up the USB port a bit.
I thought about moving the heater controls down but that may happen in the future. It was going to be more hassle than I wanted at the mo with making fixing brackets etc..
If you'd tighten things up a little in there do you think you'd have enough space for a slim slot in? You could mount a tray slim vertically, but that's not that great looking, is it...
Probably not, I've already cut the buttons off the bottom of the tft to fit it in.
I'm not to fussed about a CD up front as I don't think I will really be using it to watch DVD's etc.. but hey you never know.

Hey Ben! Do you have any updated pictures of install? Would be good to see as I have a friend with a Passat who is considering doing something similar...
Hi, not at the moment as I have taken it out of my car.
I've been looking into using a different mobo and mounting it all in the glove box.
I'm looking to use a single board computer I use at work and hopefully the on board sound will be better than the Via M board. I had to use a PCI sound card to get it to sound half decent.
I should be getting something together this week to test the sound quality.
When I do that I'll have to put the screen back in so I will take some pictures and post them up here.
