Well every one I finally got some hardware together(believe me nothing wonderful, but at least I will have GPS/MP3 for now) and finally, I ordered my screen. The screen will be arriving monday and I will be doing a temporary install to see how everything works. hopefully next weekend I can begin framing my Lilliputt and DVD drive in to their final homes. I have a wonderful idea that to this day I have not seen anyone do with a screen. Hopefully monday I can make some mockups and show you guys what I mean.
But yeah the specs for Carputer V0.01 alpha are as follows:
Dell Dimension 450 mhz p3/256 mb ram/20gb hdd/40g hdd/some crap AGP card
Startech.com Bluetooth USB
IOGear Bluetooth wireless GPS
Sony Webcam for Reverse Cam
3000+ Mp3s
Lilliput 7'"
Tray load Notebook DVD
Monster FM Modulator
I would really like to save till the Nano-ITX comes out then I will make a true purpose built CarPuter but, I am thinking maybe a microATX P4 in the mean time
Whow knows just happy to have my screen in a couple days

It runs... not fast but fast enough for audio to come thru and I was able to get Nav to work as well... I'm thinking about pulling a Dell P3 1ghz from work and just bring over everything... but that all depends
Well, I swapped the puter for a slightly faster model. keep in mind all of this stuff, I got free from work... I got a Dimension 4100 (p3 800Mhz) reused all of the other hardware. I just finished mounting my back up camera... a sony PCGA-UVC11A I mounted it where the stock 3rd brake light is supposed to be (I have a LED spoiler) hopefully this works out the way i imagined it.
I'll post pictures tommorow along with the lilliputt pics.
I know this machine sucks but I'm on a tight budget and I really need to pay off my current debt.
till tommorow
sounds good i would think that a p3 800 should work. i have a 92 civic hatch i am doing a car puter in. if u have any question or if i have any i will drop u a line.
just installed new door speakers amb sub and alpine headunit. got a 800p3 with 576megs of ram free from work as well. where do u plan on mounting the lili ?![]()
i'm hoping that the 800mhz will be ok for CF but I'm now really waiting on the new version of CF (supposed to be 100 times faster). us 5th gens have like 3 options when it comes to screen mounting. 1. move HVAC use double DIN area 2. get the JDM center console online (heres the link) 3. what i am doing
I will be picking up the lilli from UPS tonight.. and hopefully will have a chance to post some mock up pictures tommorow when there is light out... can't wait till 7:00 when i get out of work.
thanks for the comments I appreciate the help!
so here's the low down... up until today I was having trouble with a couple things... mainly the touchscreen. Now I have everything running! I will post Pics of my temporary LCD mounting tommorow hopefully. so as a recap right now I have the following up and running
LCD Mounted and TS working
FM Modulator sending Music to HU
Bluetooth GPS
Backup Camera
Sound Blaster Live! 24-bit External USB
Windows XP SP2 all updates as of now
Netstumbler
New hardware update!!
Dell Optiplex GX270 p4 3.2Ghz HT|1 gig ram|40Gig HDD|same netgear card converted to Half Height
so now that I have this I will be in the process over the next few days of resetting everything up for this Hardware.
Hopefully I will get a chance to post pics on this one...
Ok got a lot done in the screen molding department... I took out the piece of my dash that my screen is getting molded into. only took 3 hours... i tried to get the whole dash out of the car but got it as far as I needed to and pulled the piece. more work on it today. hopefully have it together by this new roc. meet... I also got the inverter (temporary solution) and lilli hardwired.
