2002 Subaru WRX - iCarputer v.2

just picked up the car less than a week ago and still planning on what to do exactly. fitting my 8" lilliput is going to require a ton of fabricating. hopefully i can finish it by the end of august. however, i don't live at home so i can only work on it a few times a month, and i'll also need extra pieces of the car which i'm slowly collecting...mostly dash pieces.

anyways, i love this car. incredible handleing, speed, the works.

for the rest of this month i'm going to focus on getting a boost and a air/fuel ratio gauge.

eventually i'll get around to updating the site, but for now i'm having too much fun driving around. i hate winter but i can't wait for it to snow again.

That's a nice scooby! Wierd back end, but still nice. Are you gonna put golden wheels on it?

Sure you must've seen the other scooby installs by now, and these cars have a screen ready dash...well, a 7" dash anyway. I'd suggest to go for a 7", not even it looks better, but also the fab is much easier considering the recessed line are already on the dash.

next spring i might get new rims and keep the snow tires on the stocks. they person who owned it before more debadged EVERYTHING except the WRX. i'm looking for a porsche "turbo" emblem to put on the front grille.

the 7" would be too easy. i'm going all out on this install. ..plus i already have a 8" and don't feel like dealing with the hassles of a lilliput 7" or the expensiveness of the xenarc.

Just so you know... There's a guy who makes a great bezel for the WRX. http://www.tmz.com/wrx
I know you said you want an 8", but considering the simplicity, you might want to give it a look.

I saw this car in person at the north jersey meet. it is very clean! I can't wait to see the install fantomas! good luck on the 8!

started working on the dash for the screen... doesn't look too great now...but just wait....just wait..... actually, it turns out that the screen should barely fit. to the left i'm going to put buttons to control various things. thats why the screen bezel is off center.

so it looks like the screen is going to extend up into the current cup holder area. are you going to combine the two dash bezel areas around the lcd bezel into one piece?

i'm not combining the two pieces, although i should.... thats actually not a bad idea. hmn... not too sure how i would clip the top in. the entire vent piece is held in by two screws down in the cup holder. i don't have any time to do it this week since i'm going back down to LI tomorrow, but i'll bring the two pieces to the meet on sunday.

i started filling in the gaps with small pieces of plastic. i'm going to try and use as little body filler as possible because cracking is lame. if i get around to working on it tonight i'll post some more pictures.

if you're worried about bondo/cracking, check out this thread about an alternative: Solvent adhesives... why don't more people use them?

although from what you said about using plastic, it sounds like you already might have.
