[lostreception] Why don't you see if you can find another console piece at the junkyard? It might be cheaper.

wow 2 months and im still uninstalled someone yell @ me

    UPDATE sorta:

hopefully ill be able to find some time to continue snaking wires and running the rest of the wires to the front. i since got a rearview cam off ebay from the seller cooleyes it seems to work well for my needs bench testing it but i still need to see how it will go installed in the van.
I also think im going to install the battery isolator but im totaly sure i need it
without my amp hooked up everything works great i just think that when the amp draws current i may run low on the line side. i figure better safe than sorry but im sure if im going overkill i already have 2 batteries ?

Hey man, I got a rear view cam for my 1977 Chevy G20 shorty and am about to install it in the keyhole in the passenger-side rear door along with a power lock for the rear door (since keyhole will disappear). The camera is a little bigger than the keyhole, so I'll have to bore it out a bit, but it's a perfect place for the cam. In my 1993 Chevy G20 I put a 12.1" touchscreen LCD in the same plastic shell over the engine cover. I cut out a large portion of the shell with a dremel but it fits perfectly... If you can ever get your hands on a 12.1 screen it looks incredibly pimp in the dash for a '78-96 Chevy Van. A decent sized mini-itx computer can fit in the dash behind where the stock radio was, so when you take it to a mechanic, all you have to do is remove the shell and disconnect power/video cables.

Lostreception, I intend to get a van just like yours soon, and I have a similar idea on where to put my monitor.

I spoke with a car audio installation shop about putting the monitor on the console above the doghouse, and they said they'll have to cut a hole in the shape of the monitor to make it flush, which also means taking out the door. Do you know if a 17 inch monitor would fit there?
Check out my GMC Savana worklog.

Remaining tasks to facilitate vanputer installation codename "Enterprise":
    - Edit skin to liking.
    - Get compatible phone for mobilephone.net.
    - Facilitate HVAC control.
