    BMW Carputer..yet unique..NEED HELP! :)

hey guys, ive decided to build myself a carputer. Just about to order my computer parts, got my software all set (frodo player). My cousin is gonna build me a bad *** comp so that side of the project is taken care of. On the other hand the wiring is gonna be tough. i got some questions about this installation before i start. Some may think its odd, but ive decided to mount my touch screen..either lillput or xenarc above my stock cd player..infront of my middle vents. yea i know it will be blocking the vents partially but ive seen some pics of other peoples setups and they say enough air gets in. Ive decided that im just going to mount the carputer in the trunk, not sure where yet. Ive decided to go this way because i dont wanna start molding a new dash and i dont mind having my stock system in there. Who knows i may upgrade to an M3 in a year or too so i guess this is just to get my feet wet. Plus if i mount the LCd above the stock headunit it will be more visible for me to see and use. I'd like all of your comments and questions and as much help as you guys can give me as i start this project. Im going to buy the shutdown controllor aswell. It looks to me that this piece should be built into the computer tower..or am i wrong..where should this be mounted? Also im keeping my headunit in place....so what do i need to buy to split my headunit harness into two pieces..so i can get sound to my computer and to my headunit. I plan on building a switch board in front so i can turn off the sound from one to the other. I believe my car is prewired for a cd changer so hopefully cables are there, unless i can buy some kinda piece that i can connect my harness too, and then feed it to the headunit and my computer..let me know if i lost anyone there or am i talking out of my *** lol...basically just wanna be able to use my headunit sometimes, but also be able to use the LCD and switch back and forth. So for now let me know what you guys think. I will post pics as i go of course

    thanks
    Jason

Check to see if your HU has AUX input..
Then it's only a matter of finding the pins to connect your CarPC to on the HU..

After that you get it amplified first through the HU and any amps you have connected to it..

    Cheers

First off, do a for other e46 installs. Notably Gorks and CDRSkulls, take onboard what they have done and why.

    Good Luck

You dont actually need those, you can go directly from your soundcard to RCA
with a 3.5mm->2xRCA cable bought at all wellstocked audio stores
(All non-wellstocked aswell.. One of the most common cables to be sold)
    It's what's used to connect i.e a mp3-player or portable cd-player to your
    home stereo..

alright i bought a USA Spec Aux interface for the bmw from crutchfield....now im a lil stuck on what to do. Originally i was going to buy a carputer with a 200watt power supply and then buy a power invertor and wire it to my battery. then i was gonna buy a shutdown controllor. then i started reading things about the 90 watt atx power supply with a built in shutodwn controller but it only had 90 watts and wouldnt be enough for all the devices i chose. What should i do. Id rather use the parts im going to buy which are basically for a normal desktop..then use the invertor and the shutdown controller if that works just aswell as the mini atx power supply and motherboard. please let me know what everyone thinks.

    thanks
    Jason
