Cool, can't wait to see the progress. Good luck!
Well, I have to get some machine time at work to make my aluminum parts, but at least the planning stage is done! My system will consist of the following goodies:
1GHz mini-itx board
512mb ram
40gig WD 7200RPM drive
combo dvd-rom/cd-rw slot load drive
belkin wireless-g usb adapter
griffin i-mic usb audio (may not end up using it)
garmin usb gps
lilliput 7" touch screen
alps glidepoint "mouse"
usb rubber keyboard
alpine era-g320 eq/dsp unit
alpine 200w sub amp
xtant 50x4 main amp
infinity 10" alum sub
For the main speakers, I'll probably use infinity kappa 6.5" components in the front doors and 2-way 6x9's in the rear deck. I am going to machine a aluminum lcd bezel, as well as something to mount the eq/dsp faceplate in the storage cubby at the bottom of the center stack. Updates to follow when i actually get some work done.
Cool, can't wait to see the progress. Good luck!
decided to bite the bullet and buy a backup center bezel, hvac controller and cubby pocket- going to glass/bondo/etc everything in just the way i want it. sold my alpine mp3 headunit to a coworker, so i do have more of a "budget" nowjust wish i knew of a yard with the parts i want, but thats what i get for having a car thats only on its 2nd model year.
I know the feeling, same boat as you '05 Grand Prix
I am contemplating the thought of hacking up my dash but i dont want to be a guinea pig. I was wondering if i can move the hvac controls down, then the stock stereo down, leaving the current location of the stereo open for a LCD install.
i have a mac mini already purchased and 7" lilliput touchscreen that came with it. all works and i have the power supply too.
any suggestions, pointers, questions, are appreciated.
thanks
First post, been lurking for a while though. Sgt. Ducky Boy: As far as moving everything down, if you remove the little "cubby" in the bottom, you give yourself 1 din basically, with the radio being a double-din, your best bet would be to remove the stock radio and either a) relocate it or b) just lose the damn thing. The whole dash "stack" is nothing but screw-holes and plastic flanges to keep everything together

(Not nearly to scale, but you get the idea)
To keep this thread on topic, and now that I look at the last post date, resurrected, good luck MP3GTP on your build, I'm stuck with trying to figure out how to hook up my sound card to the wonderful GM Monsoon audio system

02 GTP here, I dunno bout you guys, but my Standard Radio and CD player controls are a double din, wouldnt it be a good Idea to take those out and put in a double DIN Monitor?
