You can get 2 din units and the heater controls in the top without having to destroy the vent. You have to build it up though to create more space behind the din units.
Too bad I only discovered this after I had dremelled my vent out.
No pics of this yet.
But here's one of an empty hole.

One problem with the heater controls, is the vacuum pipes are too short to pass behind the din units and be placed in front of the vent.
Another is that if you want to keep the side vents then you have to construct some sort of ducting to feed them.

I've done a wee "paint" drawing to try and clarify.

Thanks for the great help. I woke up this morning planning on cutting out my vent and blocking the vent off, now I won't. BUT can you please explain better what you mean by having to "build up" to get more space behind for the 2 din unit. I assume you mean that the head unit will stick out of the dash more to accomodate the depth of it.

I am going to do a write up of my installation so will keep everyone posted.

Thats exactly what I mean.
If you look at the piccy of the empty hole, you'll see a big plastic tube at the back in the middle thats what stops getting a din unit in flush.
I screwed a couple if mdf strips to either side of the hole to "build it out".

Simply blocking off the centre vent won't stop the side vents from working, but then there's no room to put anything deep in front of it.

I'm still working on it.

I'll try to post a pic of everything in place tonight.

P.S. Does anyone have a good idea where to mount a PS2 in a 94 Cherokee Ltd? I was thinking under the rear seat by sutting a hole underneath the leather so the face of the unit is facing the back of the passengers legs. Anyone done this before?

Had to postpone my re-install for a while the kiddy was ill

Done some more work today and discovered that the heater controls would need to stick out too far if placed in front of where the centre vent is.

So back to the drawing board

Everything is out (again!!!) except for the heater controls I'll do some more work on it tomorrow.

Hi Stuseed,

Well I have finished my install. Took two nights. I will take some piccies this weekend and post them. The rundown is 1 x double din 6.5 Inch LCD DVD/TV/MP3, 1 x PS2 Mounted under rear seats, 2 x Diversity Antenna's, 1 x TEC3 Car Alarm. It was a lot of work but well worth it. It looks almost factory. I am just waiting for the overhead monitor to arrive to I can mount it, but have already run the cabling to the PS2 can be viewed independantly of what the from monitor is doind, or both monitors can view it.

The kids love it! They are calling it Jeepertainment

I am selling my Tahoe so the Cherokee will now be my Daily Driver once again. But as of right now i have no stereo. so instead of buying a new deck i just wanted to build and install a Computer to play MP3's. So i am very interested in what everyone has done to there Cherokee's.
