My first post on these boards, I can't believe i haven't found out about this whole CarPC thing earlier, man i've been missing out. Anyhow, got my new xB finally, and i'm wanting to put in a CarPC. Seen a few other xB's and it looks awesome.
For now i'm just going to try to get a small case, and put it under the passenger seat.

What do you guys think? This thread is mostly for my reference for when i start piecing this together and building my project one day i'll have some "showoff" pics.
If anyone has a better recomendation for a case please let me know. Thanks.
Also, with the Opus, i haven't been able to get a straight up answer on this. It has a startup/shutdown controler built in right? So when it gets the power from the Acc when i turn the car on, it will bring the computer back up from suspend mode, the Liliput should power on if i set it up to come on when the car starts, and my FP will be showing in like 5 seconds? (i hope) Please help me understand this and how i can make it work. Thanks

i have the same headunit, its ok.
good to knowI don't need anything fancy, i'd rather use the 200$ saved compared to buying like an Alpine, for better quality parts for the PC.
The HU is just an amp & backup MP3/CD player in case the PC breaks >_<;
Just ordered a lili 7" 629 screen, i'm thinking about getting this PSU instead of the OPUS:
http://www.mp3car.com/store/product_...products_id=94
Only because it's cheaper and seems like it has all the same options as the OPUS, except it's lower wattage but it's good for what i'll need i think. Anyone hear anything good/bad about these PSU's?
Where are you mounting your HU. I have mine in the cubby hole thingy.

Yea i'm going to cut the back out of there and screw the sides in to the "oven". I'll probably do that this weekend hopefully and just ghetto mount the touchscreen in the dash for now until i can bolt it and make it look flush.
u should read what the carnetix does..... its not a psu...
It says it's a 140w DC-DC regulator, OPUS says 150w DC-DC power supply. So what is the difference between them? I'm new to this so i have no clue, i'm glad someone said something.
So far i have the 7" Liliput Touchscreen:

Of course i have the xB:
My custom built computer (built last year, 400$! newegg.com w00t):
Shuttle An35N Ultra Mobo
Atholon Barton 2500+ [previously overclocked to 3200+ specs, 2.2ghz. Cooled by a Volcano 12 HSF]
512mb DDR Geil with heatshield!
ATi Radeon 9600xt [won in a contest last year!]
Coaxial/composite capture card [don't know if i'll use this in the car lol]
2 blue cathodes, 2 clear case fans with blue LEDs and Alien grills.
This case is TEMPORARY! I plan on building a stealthy box about half this size and fill up that empty space under the passenger seat with it. If anyone has any suggestions on what to use to build this let me know! I was thinking about taking the metal frame out of this blue case and surround it with MDF and some fabric to match the factory carpet (let me know where to find some please) and get some fans taht have green LEDs to match the rest of the interior lights.
Now on to the temporary in dash mounting job:

For my desktop background i couldn't think of a better xB to represent then this:

Of course i'm running FP, haven't tried any others but i'm happy with this so far.The skin is Figor's:
Frigors Skin is RELEASED!
I like how the daytime skin has the silver theme going on that match's up with the interior's silver accents, and the night skin's buttons have a perfect orange/amber color to match the stock ones! Eventually for the screen i plan on mounting it right behind the center dash piece and use some bondo or something to make it flush so it looks OEM. I will also relocate the buttons into the center dash piece out in front of the LCD (directly below, but it'll look like the buttons were there from the factory). Also, i'll grab a GPS antenna one day and "find" some software to get the GPS thing going down.
For my power, temporarily i'm running my computer through an inverter, but i ordered a 150w Opus.
Sony CDX-F5710 CD/MP3 Xplod deck:

Only 100$ after a 30$ mail-in cash rebate!!! I bought a 7$ cable at radio shack that has male component ends that go into a male 1/8" jack to plug into my computer's on-board sound card. The sound is very clean, i thought it would sound much worse! I can only imagine how good it will sound once i get a better soundcard, and upgrade all my speakers, and throw a sub in too![]()
Not bad eh? This is my second car, i'm still in high school so i don't think i'm doing too bad eh? My first time using a dremel as well. I had to cut the back out of that cubby hole that us scion owners call the "oven" so the head unit would fit in. I still need to mount it in there at an angle and make it more secure though.
