Last question - do you find that the screen is at a good height being under the AC vents? Are the AC controls accessible being at the bottom?

It shouldn't be a bother with the AC on the bottom. Before I tore my dash apart I had the stock CD player down there and I was always using the CD player. If I could fit a CD down there, adjusting the AC controls isn’t a problem and I use the heater a lot with the top down.

My original plan was to use the 2001+ bezel with the double din on the bottom but I did some tests and I found out that it is to cumbersome to use the screen with my automatic shifter. When the car is in park the clearance is very small from the shifter and the screen and my knuckles would hit the touch screen constantly when I place the car in park. I’m guessing that might be a problem with a stick shift as well. This isn’t a problem with the 2 single din that came with my 2000 mustang cause the Bottom CD Din is a deeper set compared to the double din that is placed forward more towards the shifter. Also the position is too low for my liking. I wanted to have the screen be high enough to be visible when my top down. You can’t build a PC in your car without showing it off. All in all I prefer to have the AC on the bottom. They’re not that attractive anyway so might as well stick them in the bottom.

Go for the Xenarc 7 in. The 8 in will give you a little more display but trying to fit it in the center console is going to be tricky and probably won’t fit nicely. Also depends on what else you are going to add to the front bezel. Forget the 8 in if you want the CD-Rom in the front like mine, there won’t be enough room. For me it was a very tight fit just getting the 7 in. screen and CD-Rom in there. I placed the Screen as close to the top as possible and placed the CD-Rom just below it and it still didn’t run flush with the plastic horizontal plastic plane the runs from the top of the AC controls to the bottom of the CD-Rom. I had to cut into it about 2 inches so that my CD-Rom wood case would fit. Dropping the CD-Rom any lower and you won’t be able to get to the AC controls.

Well the stang has been on hold for many reasons mainly cause it wasnt running. So now i got all the time in the world to do it cause i bought a little beater car to get me by. After looking at millions of cars the wife talked me into getting a 2006 Suzuki Aerio sx so i can keep the stang stripped down till shes all ready to finish up. No more taking something out for a few hours only to put it back in so i can go here or there.

Wife promised me some money soon so hopefully ill get the fuel pump for the stangget it on the road again and get the fire in me again for this install. Im thinking if i get the screen im stuck theres no way ill back down then So my B-Day is late in Jan and thats what im telling her i want!

Well since the wife tried to inpregnate a Cavalier with her truck yesterday looks to be about 12K damage, so the stang will go into the shop on monday to fix the fuel issues and get back on the road so i will be back at the CarPc income tax money is in now i need to settle on a mobo and PSU

Sorry to her about your impotent truck. I doubt a new car is going to pop out of the Cavalier in 9 months. Keep at that mustang. It'll be well worth it when you are done. Here is some motivation for that fire thats been reduced to embers.

Did you ever get around to taking any pics of how the AC panel is bolted in there? I have some 90 degree brackets that will work, but wouldn't mind a visual of where the bracket is attached to on the car...

OK i really have to get this car done now, i just have to settle on a mobo mainly, once that is done im good to go. I do have a P3 933 i could use but i think id rather use a 2400 amd mobile, got plenty of ram and HD's to work with

Na, I installed a rear cam last weekend, but It didn't require me to take off the dash. I could pop it off and take a few pics. I'm in the process of moving though so it might not be anytime soon. I admit the way I did it was a hacked up way and theres probably a better way to do it.
