    progress

Ok finally a little progress. All items have arrived for installation. So, I called in the reserves my twin daughters. They were a big help in designing the sub box and managing the ‘to do’ list.

The end result of the weekend:

    a) Installed polk/momo tweeters in the factory location. We had to design a plate for the polk tweeters to seat correctly.
    b) Installed polk/momo woofers in factory location. We need to design a plate for these to mount also. Temporary installed for our 7 hour drive this week.
    c) Installed two cat5 lines, 5 aftermarket speaker cables, remote signal line, xenarc USB and video.
    d) Subwoofer designed for correct volume for two polk/momo 10” subwoofers.
    e) Trunk component layout design.
    f) Purchased all materials to build subwoofer enclosure and trunk false floor. ¾” MDF for the subwoofer enclosure and ½” MDF for false floor.

A few pictures of the weekend:

no driver seat. just remove two bolts and two nuts and one connector.

we had to design a adapter for the polk/momo tweeter to mount in the factory location. so far so good. will be paited black. may build one out of aluminium at a later date.

another pic in the factory location.

another helper slipped in while we had the seats out.

while i was working on installing the polk/momo components, the twins were working on the subwoofer enclosure design. who says youll never use math.

running all the data and audio cables under the passenger carpet. i installed an extra speaker cable for a center channel if i ever decide to go that route. the floor looks rough in the picture. but, its underlayment and some factory glue.

photo of the factory mach460 tweeter grill removed. it just snaps off. the door cup removed, again just pops out with the tab at the top of the cup. but, you must remove two screws to remove the window / door lock module. the door handle cup snaps out and two screws hold the entire door panel in place. easy to remove once you figure it out.

thats all for now. we will validate our formulas and start subwoofer enclosure construction soon. hopefully we will have everything installed for our trip.

    cobra sub enclosure progress

we made progress on the sub enclosure and trunk layout this weekend. we verified the measurements and started the layout on the 3/4" MDF.

a lot of sawing with a jig saw and circular saw and 1 tube of wood glue and 43 wood screws later... we have.. a sub enclosure with volume for two polk/momo SVC 10's @ 4 ohms each.

and a test fit .. exactly as measured...

we also built the false floor with 1/2" MDF. we split the design in half to allow for installation and spare tire access. plans are still up in the air, but we are looking into outlining the base with some type of 3" foam and building a top cover to match the bottom for a complete stealth look. both pieces and the sub enclosure will be carpeted to match the current trunk.

    passenger side

    component layout ideas

since we have two SVC 10" subs @ 4 ohms each. we will probably purchase another alpine amp MRD-M1005 to mount under the MRV-F545. after a bit of research some say the MRV-F545 will push the subs 2 ohm load bridged on channel 3/4 with no problems. but some say its only time that it will fail. until we purchase the sub amp we will run the polk/momo crossovers for the front via the MRV-F545 crossover. we will run the Alpine H701 crossover when the sub amp is installed and then the MRV-F545 will push the tweeters and mids and the MRD-M1005 will push the subs.

    component layout with sub

the false floor meets the back of the sub enclosure.

thanks to the twins for all the help this weekend.....

    more to follow......

seems on the passenger side the AC lines etc get in the way. but, on the driver side there are a few grommets you can work through or add an aditional hole in the grommet to route wires through. i routed my power wire through the driver side via grommet at the firewall.

Thanks! As soon as I do something I'll post pics of my project too.
So far I've relocated the A/C knobs on the bottom and removed the bezel.
