Thumbs up Jeep Liberty 2005 Worklog

Since I've acquired most of the core parts and now know I'm doing this for real I thought I'd start my worklog. I'm installing an AMD Athlon XP machine in my Jeep Liberty 2005 primarily for music and navigation. As an OS I'm going to use Linux From Scratch which I'm about half way through building. The actual GUI is going to be a little different, but more on that later. First of all, here're my parts so far:

    AMD Athlon XP 2400+ (35W)
    2x OCZ 512MB DDR400 RAM
MSI K7N2GM-V (smaller than the largest mATX size)
    300W mATX PSU

This weekend I'm going to try to get the pin mod for the mobile processor done and get further along on my LFS install. I'm thinking about using one of the foldout touch screens but hear they're prone to breaking from "hand-toucing-screen" pressure. I'll keep this thread updated as I make progress and pics will come

Ok, I've finished setting up the basic LFS install. I'm now in the process of getting networking, X, and a window manager running. Right now I'm booting to the login prompt in 10 seconds after the BIOS has finished, this is at 800MHz core @ 166MHz FSB. The integrated networking chip on my mobo is being ackward; I've tried compiling support for it into the kernel with out success thus far. I'll eventually be using wireless anyways and may not be needing this. I'll post some pictures of the hardware soon.

Ok, I've got both the integrated Ethernet and my Linksys WMP54G wireless PCI card working beautifully. I also got all of the dependancies installed for X and support for USB mass storage devices like USB keys, iPods, etc. Sorry, still no pictures, hopefully I get them and X installed shortly.

Nice! Bet you guys thought I bailed. Well, here's the almost complete case:

Just need to add my silent 80mm fan and cut an opening for the external cables to come through. The case will just fit any standard low profile PCI card and fits perectly under the drivers seat of an 05 Jeep Liberty.

I said previously that I was going to run a stripped down version of the X Windows system. I've revised that plan and am going to do all of the graphics through OpenGL (Mesa) and the MiniGLX interface. Basically this means that I can get full graphics acceleration and OpenGL support without any overhead from a windowing system.

More pics and info to come eventually, but don't hold you breath
