    Hello,

    I just receive my second-hand 1998 Freelander.
I was hopping using the same "cup-holder trick" as you, but, I was suprised to see that my freelander doesn't havec this Cup holder. I only have a rubber pad. I could consider rebuild a piece, but, if should be easier to buy the same cup holder as you.
Do you know if it is possible?
Do you have any advises or recommendations about building this kind of system?

    Thanks,

    JC

as far as finding the cupholder ... when i started, i searched and found the price is roughly $45 for a replacement cupholder. i am not sure where i saw it, but it can't be too hard to find. worst case, maybe you can call a dealership and they can get you a replacement part, although it's a little more expensive.

i built the lcd mount the first time as a temporary solution. i installed the rest of the car computer and ran the system for a few months. since then i have been contemplating how to permanently mount the screen (still in the same place). i took apart the cupholder/screen last week. i decided on a better way to mount it, using aluminum angles on each side of the screen. the one problem i have is figuring out how to open and close it. the previous method involved a "stick" that was put through the two holes. i have been sketching some push buttons, latches, etc. the problem is that there is almost no room to mount a latch behind the top of the screen. i'll post pictures of my current progress soon.

as far as advice ... the cupholder is perfect for my car. if i were in your shoes, i would buy one and do it the same way. if you do use a cupholder, take it apart strategically. the front flap can be cut away, but the back flap is mounted well on pins, with a nice gears for smooth movement. just attach the top flap to the bottom and trim all the excess material away.
