Yeah I do have the ram if you are interested, I am not sure how well they will intergrate, and if they dont its cause I am stupid, but yeah it should work.

I may just run dvd's through the laptop thinking about it.

hehe, give me a week to figure out what i'm getting in this barter an we'll talk

BTW, have you heard of this software called memturbo? Great little app, give it a whirl if you get the chance. Allowed me to do some things that even my computer savvy friends called computer cruelity.

BTW, talk to me more about this integration of yours. I'm really interested.

hmm couldnt really get anything to work with that memturbo thingy,....

As far as how it goes,

Basically, I will run a network hub. I will have linux stripped down,(that will come later, for a while I will prolly just run a bootable, such as knoppix) to play mp3's.

That will be basically all it will do. Mp3's and maybe dvd's.

Linux can read windows, but not the other way around. The laptop, with a broken screen, will remain basically unmollested. Maybe a remote power button but that is it. I will add gps and wireless internet to it, using a local service provider. It uses cell phone frequencies.

Then I wire them together, using the hub, and I put a switch in there for a keyboard/mouse/screen. That is pretty much it.

I have a few updates, not big ones but updates.

So far I have gotten the 500mhz fanless to beep at me, and the beep says bad memory. I put that memory in my desktop and it dosent do anything at all. So I am assuimg that the motherboard is good. Now I just have to find some compatable ram and I should be in good shape. Nothing as far as the laptop is concerned though. I havent been able to find a decent laptop for a good price as of yet. I also decided that I want to step up to a pentium 4ish so that I can play some older, but still newer games.

I have worked with the linux integration, and I havent had any problems with it so far. On my dad's laptop, to mydestop running linux, I can access all information easily, so so far so good. I havent tried playing a dvd off of it yet, so that is the only thing I dont think I have worked out yet.

I am using one of those cruddy 200w power supplies that just click in the power for now, I havent gotten a voltage regulator yet though.

I have a hub I can throw in there if I want, and the screen should be on its way soon.

Now all I really need is the laptop with its own dc-dc power supply, and a stick of ram. I am not worried about a case for the computer, because it will not be in a place where it can get touched or anything veryeasily. I will prolly just use some realy strong glue to a peice of wood, and hot glue around it incase that gives way. Maybe some 3m wether stripping glue. That stuff works really good. I havent worked out a switch yet, or the keyboard/mouse yet.

Keyboard will probably just be a smaller on hidden somewhere like under the seat, with a usb number pad and usb logitech trackball molded into the little console thingy where the power windows switch would go.

I havent the slightest where all the wires will go yet, but I dont think it will be that hard. If I can I want to run at least 4 gauge wire to the trunk to a distro block, to split to the amps, laptop, and the trunk well area.

I can really see it coming together now.

Well guess what? I did get a laptop. Not a pentium 4 like I wanted, but a amd 1.6 ghz 1800+. So I guess I am okay with that . Has 512 mb ram, dvd/cd burner, and a working screen with a bad back light. The only thing I have to change out for sure, would be the ac port thingy on the back. My dad has almost the same laptop and it broke off, in the auction it states that it is alittle loose and you have to wiggle it sometimes.

Anyways,....I have the new screen, a planar 9.4", I need to rewire it from the db-15 pin to the right kinda or something like that. Then It should work fine. I have hooked it up to power and it will give me lots of little lights and what not.

I can get a universal power supply that should work fine for the laptop, a regulated 12v cigarette light adaptar plate. Still havent gotten new ram for the other computer. I will prolly want to go ahead and get a car running and legal now! Maybe even put the battery back in and finish the water pump

    laptop, 1.6mhz dvd/cdrw,
9.4" Planar screen, hasent been modded.
    Keyboard, mouse
533mhz fanless motherboard, appears to be working.
factory disk. Windows xp for laptop, to be replaced with 2000 upon arrival
download(50 mb!) DSL(damn small linux) already downloaded for 533nhz machine.
pinoneer speakers and a two channel amp, for now. Infinities and a couple of subs/amps, after carputer is compleate!
cruddy 12v power supply, click onto power connector type

    Need:
Ram for 533 mhz fanless motherboard.
    dc/dc Laptop power supply
A running car! sounds like time to get the rest of those bolts at the junk yard
to use the cruddy power supply, voltage regulator. Around 100 watts.
Switch for the monitor and keyboard/mouse
Wires, and lots of it. Including distro block '
Power switch extension to the dash area. for the laptop.

    Wants:
nicer speakers, not really a need,
pinoneer speakers and a two channel amp, for now. Infinities and a couple of subs/amps, after carputer is compleate!
gps(might just go with google earth with internet!
    wifi card, with anntenna
    Laptop power supply
    Voltage regulator
Dvd/cdrw slot load, to be placed with the linux machine.
Wireless internet! this is a big one!
fabricate computer mounts and make screen fit. Want to get it all working first though.

well looks like I am prolly looking at the m2 atx power supply. I need 3 amps on the 12v rail for the screen itself, plus what ever the computer will actaully use. The laptop power supply should be here soon, so I shouldn't have a whole lot to worry about the laptop. I will prolly just throw the laptop in there with the new power supply connector resoldered in, just to test and see how it works.

I burnt out my screen. Damn positive was black and neg was red. Anyways, I decided to just use the connector that comes with the screen from now on

same 9.4" screen, I like that way it fits into 2 3/4 din slots, and I wanna have a bigger screen. Kinda like turbo's. I am thinking of ways to mount it so that I can tilt it and what not. maybe make a ball joint one that stays in place. I dunno.

Current plans are for a m2-atx, the 8 amps on the 12v rail will make me happy. 3 amps will go straight to the screen, mini-itx shouldnt use any, havent looked into it yet, then the dvd,and usb will use about 4 amps on the 5 volt rail. I should be pretty much in the clear.

The laptop will just be mounted in the rear deck, and I will make a 3/4inch false rear door, that will also have the 6x9's mount on the other side. and another board on the other side of that. I will try to deminstraight.

Amps/laptop, Wood, Dead space, 6x9's above dead space with ports(more vents) for subs, more wood for the subs to mount to, with holes for the subs of course.

Not a very good visualization, but I think it will work fine. Dunno what will be there for the subs, prolly just a 8" and a 12". I am looking at infinity speakers, after I do the subs. Maybe some load speakers for the dash, and some 8 inchers for the doors. I dont wanna blast the car with bass, but I like the idea of having lots of extra.

Also, cant find a decent track ball for less then $20, so I will end up buying a new one. I am working on mounting the screen now. The screen will actually take up the top two dins, and the clock area.

I am getting really sick of the screen situation. I have fried the one screen, and now I can get it to turn on. So I bought another one, and it was DOA. I am starting to get ****ed off at this. I have some updates though.

I will prolly stay away from a wireless internet card, at least for now. I will go twoard the wifi way, leagally of course.

I had a dc-dc laptop power supply that seems to work well, Havent checked to see if it survives cranking yet, but more on that now.

m2-atx. It provides 8amps on all three rails, 3.3v,5.5(or is it just 5?) and 12v. The good thing, I do not need the 12v rail, it is not used at all for the mini-itx motherboard. I will also only be around 30-40 watts overall, as long as I dont go crazy with the usb parts. So the power supply is good for 6-24v, and is guarenteed to survive cranking, so I will run the 12v screen, and laptop power supply through it, so they will both stay on even while cranking the car. and being that both are only 5 amps or so all together, that leaves me room for a small fan for my fanless motherboard.
I also have a small usb keyboard, and a ****ty usb trackball, They both tested fine and installed on bootup.
The laptop will have one or two small(5-10 gigs) hard drives, and the desktop will have a single 30 gig hard drive. For now at least

So here is a new checklist.

    Gotten(I learned english very well)
    usb keyboard/trackball
Power supply(should be on its way)
    Laptop, of course
power supply, for laptop and desktop.
    Windows/linux
    and that mini itx motherboard.
    Hard drives.

    Still need to be gotten
Ram for the stupid little itx motherboard, man its picky.
    A WORKING screen
a keyboard/screen switch. thinking this right now http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...uct_id=3609875
oh, and I have taken the laptop apart, but i havent soldered(?) the mother board power connection yet.
a slim slot load dvd with encloser.
    A externally powered usb hub.

I think that is pretty much it, I have an amp, Havent really looked into the wiring, but I am sure it is really straight forward. I should really get a buttload of wires too. I am sure I will mess up alot.
