Today I finally got to taking some pictures of the connector and the finished set up.
First off, here are a couple pics of that the connector looks like in its finished state. To give it a nice finished look, I applied 4 coats of Plasti-dip, which is a really nice rubber grip that is used for coating tool handles. After the coating dried a little, I cut away the covering from the connector ends.
Here you can see how nicely my Touch fits in the center console with the control/audio adapter and the power cord plugged in. It's almost like it was meant to be.... Anyways, the only problem with this off brand power adapter is that if I have it plugged into the Touch while I am listening to music, I get some pretty horrible static. I have tried isolating the ground, but have had no luck at all.
This is what the steering wheel looks like now. Pretty white buttons.... I am also still planning on getting some red LED's installed in them. I suppose that will be the next set of pics.
Lastly, a wider shot to show the dash with the Touch, steering wheel, and head unit.
Now that it's been a couple months since I finished this project, I have had ample time to use it and think about it. All in all, I am really happy with the way everything works. Aside from the ocassional misbehaving function (I imagine its because the buttons add a small resistance depending upon how hard they are pressed), everything is great. The only time that I have to reach down is if I want to listen to something that isn't on my playlist.
This is definately on of my favorite projects.
