This is the frame that I built to go around my 8" Lilli.
I thought I would start a work log since my project is coming along nicely and will be done within the next two weeks.
This is my dash before I started on the LCD. I didn't realize it was sitting upside down when I took the photo!

You can see that I built a 10 degree "slope" into the frame for the LCD. This is so that it angles upward a little to help with glare. When I glued it into the dash bezel, I also tipped it slightly towards the driver.

This is the LCD set into the dash bezel for a trial "fit". Here you can also see that I relocated the HVAC controls to the lower opening which used to be a cubby hole. I enlarged the cubby using a spindle sander.

This is the box I'm using as a case for my motherboard. Its an old KVM switch that I had laying around.

This is the back side of the KVM. You can see I will have a lot of holes to fill!

This is a photo of the case after MUCH modifying. The motherboard stand-offs have been bonded into the bottom of the case. The "front" of the KVM is now the back of the case and I have cut out an opening for the bezel that goes around the connections on the back of the board.
The small square opening is for a rocker style power switch.
The back panel looks a little wavey from the fiberglass backing that I used to cover the hole cut-outs from the KVM. However, the other side of this panel looks perfect and is nice and smooth and flat. I figure its the outside that matters anyway as far as looks go.

This photo shows the case with the motherboard and power supply.
To the left is the lid for the case. I cut out a 3" hole to hold an 80mm 32CFM fan. I have a chrome grill which will go over the top of the hole.
The 4 holes to the right side of the lid will hold the hard drive in place.

I needed to add a vent to the case to allow fresh air inside. I found this grill that came from an old PC. It was actually a faceplate for the front of a PC case where a floppy drive could be mounted. I thought it would make a perfect vent!

I decided to mount the vent into the side of the lid for my case. I chose this location because when my case is located in the vehicle this "high" location on the case's lid will afford the most air flow.
Here the vent has been cut and bonded into the lid using epoxy.
