    Audi A6 2001 -- from the beginning

I'm starting an install for my 2001 Audi A6, and I thought I'd document the process here. And maybe get a little help from all who've gone before.

I really like this "bolt-in" concept Complete bolt in Screen/CPU/HD/PS - indash, but I don't think I have enough depth for a 17x17 board. And the new 12x12 boards don't seem to be available now. So, still planning...

    Here are some "before" pics.

Will a 6.75 x 6.75 inches board fit for you?

    If so, look at this:

i recommend putting the computer in the trunk. or someplace that has easy access.

its a computer, and things will go wrong.

the last thing you want to do it take it all apart to find out why its not working.

being able to work on it, with minimal dismantling is always a good idea!

i had my computer behind the screen, and what a pain in the ***.

i now have it in the trunk and the small side amp compartment.

and i know the a6 has a bug boot, so it wouldn't be a problem finding a place for it = )

    Funny.

My carPCv2 (pico-itx based) is going to be an in-dash moving it away from the trunk. The idea would be to simply pull out the PC (screen and computer), take it into the house, connect the power and, tada, you're ready to update.

I really like the idea of that PicoITX. If that had been out when I started my CarPC, it'd be in the car. I'll be very interested to see how fast it is. Since you can put up to a GB of memory in it, it should move right through things.

Are you getting the ARTiGO kit?

Yeah. I was able to pick up a brand new artigo used for $200US.

Not a bad deal considering I have a spare 2.5" HDD lying around already and the RAM is not too expensive.
