    2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited

    The journey begins...

I have the MB, PSU, and Xenarc 700TS LCD already. I just am not sure where and how to mount the LCD in the dash. Maybe you guys can give me some feedback and ideas. I already did plenty of es on the forums for jeep and I don't see anything like what I am trying to do.

Location: My idea is to keep the HU as then I will still have use of my SW controls and I won't have to buy another amp with RCA inputs, as I can continue to use my stock amp. I'll only need to get one of those AUX-RCA boxes from Crutchfield or similar. I plan on removing the air vents and the ashtray/cig lighters/seat heaters, then dropping the temp controls to make room for the LCD. Make sense?

Mounting: Unlike most of the other installs I have been reading about, there is no bezel or dash that I can remove and bondo/mount the LCD to. I will have to find someway to secure the LCD into that spot in the dash. I have some funky ideas, but would love to hear from you guys how you would do it. The opening width in the dash measures 10". that will give me about 1.x inches on the sides that I would have to fill - but not sure how to do this.

Other possible options are to remove just the ashtray part and mount the LCD down there utilizing the ashtray space and the coin holder in the front. Another idea would be to mount the LCD on top of the dash by building a custom enclosure for it. But then I would have to cut holes in the dash I imagine, and that's not very clean.

Computer: I plan on mounting this in the center console like others have done. That will keep the wires pretty short and near power. The other option is to put the PC in the spot that the CD changer is in the back of the JEEP.

    What are your thoughts?

i'd drop the a/c down to where the ashtray is and put the screen there in the old a/c location

Just to clarify, isn't that what I said?

Or do you mean just remove the ashtray and keep the vents? There's not enough room for that. I need at least 4.75 inches for the display, and 5 would be better to create a faux-bezel if you will. The vents (2" high)would also have to be removed to get the necessary space.

I also should state that if I remove the vents and ashtray, then drop the temp controls, I still need to relocate the power outlets and seat heater controls. In theory, if I drop the temp controls, that would give me about 1.5 inches at the bottom to remount those outlets and buttons. Or I could mount them to each side of the console.

I think you guys are saying the same thing... Any thoughts as to using this: Universal Steering Wheel Control in lieu of your head unit for the steering wheel controls? I know is doesn't solve the amp problem, but I know a solution is out there...

leme see if I can convery this accurately...

to go off of your thought about mounting the screen down where the ash tray is located, what if you were to integrate it into that area below the tray as well?

it would be angled more up towards you, you would have to remove that area where the pins are, cut it out and mold the screen in, or rather mold the screen in to the center console?

I'm trying to figure out how to word it, I can see it in my head, I just can't out it into words...lol

Let me see if I can get photoshop loaded today and post some conceptual pictures of what I think the two suggestions are. However mounting it down below doesn't excite me much. If I plan to use GPS as much as I think I will, looking down (rather than just moving my eyes) might pose a hazzard. Plus watching movies on long road trips for the passengers is going to be a bit of a neck strain.

Yea, I've looked into those. However I'd still need to get a new amp and I do listen to FM regularly, so that would be a problem. I'm pretty sure that keeping my HU is going to happen.

Don't have XM or Sirius yet? I used to listen to FM all the time, in the car at work etc. Now none at all. Now the only time I listen to FM is when i am in someone else's car. To each his own though!

As far as the screen placement goes... is this what you are talking about? Sorry about the shotty ps

Ok here's a couple rough shots of what I think we're talking about.

Excuse my poor photoshop skillz. But you get the idea. It should be to scale - maybe 1/4 inch off or so. But you see the problem of how I have to fill in the sides of the LCD with something. And since there is no bezel to speak of, I have to custom make something to hold it in place.

Yes, much better photoshop skills than me. Except there will be a 1 inch space on each side that I have to fill with something, but yet still make the dash look good and seamless, if possible.
