Cool, I've gone with that kind of setup b4. It leaves the most options open for EQ, etc.

Well. today was a decent day. lol
found the amp. contacted honda. it took them about 2 hours to locate the pinout on the amp so it could be bypassed. installed the amp, installed the dash and everything. only issues at this moment. the HQCT is not working yet. Im not sure whats up with that but i think i have an idea. the amp is not tuned to the system really. and for some reason the audigy subwoofer is grey'd out. so i cant select the sub also no output goes back to the sub. also my gps isnt picking up satellites like its supposed to. so I still have a few things to work on, but at least i had music for the ride home. :P
Heres some pics of the final product. the rest seems minor or software.

Wow, good stuff, I got some quick questions though: can you mention some more details about the Amp? So there is one after the output from the OEM head unit? Where is it located physically, in the dash somewhere?
Also, about getting through the firewall, where did you end up putting the cable?
I currently got an SI on order and I like what you've done with the thing... any plans on making the steering wheel volume controls work in the PC? If so let me know how that goes, as well as ironing out all your issues... Keep us posted!
thanks man.
Yes on the SI. there is an amp besides the factory radio. its in the center console. by the floor in front of the shifter. The SRS controller box is there also. I believe the amp sits on top. of it. basically stay away from any wires in your car that are wrapped with yellow tape. Yellow means Airbag. I guess that i could of used line level in to the factory amp, but i wasnt sure if i could use the amp or not so i went with the 5 channel amp. To get the wiring diagram youll have to go to honda service dept and have them pull the schematic up for you. ill see if i still have the diagram but im not sure where i put them when i was done. and the diagram wasnt under the radio schematics. there was a seperate section for amplifier/sound i beleive. it took like an hour for them to find what i was looking for.
as for the wiring thru the firewall.

If you look where the wire goes under the 2 airconditioning lines. there are two rubber gromlets in the firewall there. its a tight fit to get your hand in there or anything else for that matter. in your dash in the car theres a huge air filter for the ventalation system on the passenger side. the gromlets are behind there. which is also a tight fit. I had to go from the inside of the car and then fit my hand in the engine compartment to be able to find the wire. I wasnt able to do it any other way. and i literally fought with the damn thing for a couple hours. there is no real easy way since the engine practically sits half under the dash.
The steering wheel controls are in the works. I had a few things come up that needed cash so i postponed finishing a few of the little things. the only 2 things I didnt finish was the steering wheel control, and the obdII conector.
I have to still remount the gps reciever, I found it doesnt grab a signal in the dash, it has to see the sky, and I have a u132 pcmcia to usb adapter that i still need to mount for my verizon card.
but really other then that Most of my bugs are worked out all ready. now all ive been doing lately is tweaking the software to get better load times, and making sure i get everything working 100%.
Then again, once you start this project your never trully 100% done. If youd like to know anythng else let me know.
nice progress looks great so far. hows the angle of the screen for viewing? is it dim when your sitting in the drivers seat or not? also can the passanger see the screen? and can you please post the pinouts as i also may need them... thank you very much.
I found where i stashed it at, but i wasnt able to scan it in. my scanner got an attitude and i kinda tossed it out a window. besides the point. anyhow. i drew the diagram real quick. forgive the sloppiness i wasnt going for an art award. this is for the wiring of the amp itself thats hidden in the center counsel.

remember you cant amplify an amplifed signal so you need to bypass the factory amp unless you plan on using it.
heres a nice write up i found on taking the dash apart, and the harness up top at the radio..http://www.8thcivic.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3534
one last thing. if your going to add a radio of some sort. you need an antenna adapter. the extra wire hooks up to accessory turn on.

yes the passenger can see my screen just fine. its better at night but you can still see it during the day, i can see pretty much good in the drivers seat. it looks like im tilted up about 2-4 degrees too much, but everything is very visable.
