2003 Audi A4 Worklog ~ Puff's Ride

there is a 6 disk cd changer built into the head unit on this car. in the older cars there is a place in the trunk for the optional cd changer (thats where i tucked my computer in my old one). there has to be some sort of adapter that can be used like if someone wanted to attach an aftermarket HU to the factory speakers. the only thing that worries me is that the signal coming from a sound card or line out of a mb would be too weak to power the speakers? i mean HUs amplify the signal before going to the speakers...

turbocad has a point with the bezel. its a pita to get that inner edge straightened just right, and if its off just a little you can tell. take it slow and be careful :)

Yeah, I made a huge mistake with my bondo. I should have taken it slower and read more. Hindsight is 20/20, and for those following my install, learn from my mistakes please! I will clean up the inner edge, but it will not be perfect. If it does not look salvagable after all my cleanup efforts, I will start over. The double din kit is pricey, but I can get it for around $50 online I think (paid $80 locally).

It looks like it will take RCA input and send it to the factory wiring to the speakers. I am still trying to figure out if my amp is in the HU or seperate. Paul H is a Audi tech and he is going to check my VIN and give me the wiring diagrams and such. Hopefully this will shed some light on the audio situation.

As ssmiley1 said, the adapters are made for an aftermarket HU, which would be powered. Since I will be using my USB soundcard outputs, it may not be enough power. Maybe a small amp between the USB soundcard and the interface adapter, that way the RCA output to the adapter would be powered.

I have no doubt in my mind there is some sort of adapter out there to plug in an Aux source to the CD changer with RCA jacks or something. Since there are 100 different iPod devices for the Audi Bose systems to directly connect into the cd changer port, there HAS to be a way to do it with RCA jacks. That really isn't my main concern, my main concern is that I REALLY want to put the screen molded into where the factory deck currently remains. But if the factory deck goes, the entire system is pretty much shot.

BUT, I'm hoping for something like smiley stated that allows an aftermarket deck to hook into the factory Bose system preventing us from gutting the car and starting from scratch :( If anyone figures out this dilemna please let us know.

Can anyone say for sure this will work? It would solve our problem of being able to use the factory speaker/amp setup...

I emailed this to the manufacturer of the SVEN4...

I would like to know if the SVEN4 would allow me to connect a RCA output from a non-powered device (a computer soundcard in this case) to my OEM speakers and amps. I have a 2003 Audi A4 with the Symphony (non-Bose) double din headunit. I will be removing the headunit and replacing it with a touchscreen lcd in the dash and a computer to provide the audio. I do not want to replace the factory speakers or amp, and am hoping the SVEN4 will bridge the gap between my computer and factory speakers/amp. Thank you.

This setup won't work because you have no amp. for your front speakers
It's only capable to convert signals with the abality of taking high power input.
You have to connect it to an amp. so you need that to.

Yeah, I figured that may be the case. So I need to use an amp between the soundcard output and the Line Output Converter. What kind of amp? 2 channel? How many watts? The rear speakers have an amp already right, so I just need one for the front?

What about this

Looks good, but I have two speaker in each of the four doors. Any idea what type of signal processor? Like a DAC USB device? Or by signal processor do you mean Line Out Converter (the one I linked to earlier)? We are on the right path though. I'll make a diagram as I see it...
