I feel exactly the same way. Thats why I plan on adding lots of manual buttons to activate things on the carputer and whatnot. I think it's a shame that people dont put more buttons with carputers, they can make the system a lot nicer and easier to use (from what i read, and from what i see in stock luxury cars that have gps, etc. w/ lots of buttons).

But i have to say it is still nice having a touch screen for all thoes little things. Plus color is a must for me lol i love my color .

Urrrghh. I haven't made any progress yet. I've been battling Gentoo installations on my other two machines. Hopefully this will be resolved soon.

Hey everyone. I just fixed a major issue in my Graphical Toolkit. This will allow me to continue development of the mp3 player software on my Desktop computer instead of on my mp3 player. (basically, I can do everything faster since I can test the program locally).

I also changed the way listboxes work. Now listboxes can pull data from the library only as it is needed. So, everything is a bit faster. I still have some more work to do before I feel like posting pics again.

    Thanks for checking it out.

Glad to hear the programming is still progressing. What type of car is this unit going into?

I know, I know!! It's been too long.

    So here is what's up:

I didn't work on the project at all between September and December of last year. I graduated and now I have a "real" job. Anyways, this job is taking alot of my time.

I thought I was burning screens out, but it turns out that there was a loose crimp on my VFD ribbon cable. I refabricated the cable and now the screen works fine. So, I have a couple of backup screens now. I changed my music playing backend to Xmms2. I used to run my own audio-system built around FMod. I switched to Xmms2 a while ago and I've been happy just letting the minimal implementation sit in my dash.

Well, that time is no more. Xmms2 is about to finalize support for "Collections" this allows me to add all sorts of awesome features to my mp3 player. (Intelligent lists, party shuffle, hierarchy of collections/playlists). So you will probably see more from me in the next month or so. My goal is to have something awesome by May - just in time for the 1 year anniversary of this thread.
