The car:
The case (95% done)

I started this project about a week ago, and am still waiting for most of the parts to arrive. So far I have the case just about finished and most of the software in hand but not installed since I'm waiting on my extra power supply to run the setup in my home. The case is gonna take place of a storage pocket in the trunk. The actual computer hardware is pretty basic, and I will upgrade as time, money, and necessity allow.
System:
Soyo mainboard, Pentium3/866mhz
256MB SDram
M2-ATX
40GB hard drive
5.1 channel sound card
USB 2.0 5-port PCI card
USB 2.0 4-port powered hub
Lite-on USB 2.0 DVD/CD-R/W slot load external laptop drive
USB GPS reciever
bluetooth dongle
802.11g Wifi card
Ex-Audio 7" touchscreen
mini illuminated keyboard
ATI Radeon 32MB graphics card (probably not gonna use it, may just use the on-board video if it works out)
Custom case
Software:
Windows XP
Road runner
Iguidance
Netstumbler
(need some more suggestions on other software)
The plan is to use the carputer to handle all of the audio with the soundcard tied into my 4-channel amp, so no headunit
Audio (already installed):
Pioneer 35wrms x4 amp
JL1000/1
JL 12" W7
I still need to get a decent set of 3-way components for the front and maybe a powered center channel
Pictures of the case: (will upload soon)

hi, how do you like the ex-audio lcd? could you post some pics of it?
Ex-audio screen is pretty good. I'm not sure what's up with the Ebay Seller, I bought some stuff off them a year ago and they were great. This time they tried to hold the monitor back until I paid them more money. I threatened to contact Ebay and they finally sent the screen.Originally Posted by seen
I have the Carputer all wired up, but I ran into some problems which is why I haven't updated this yet. First, I think my Mobo died, and a new one is on the way. Then I cracked the touchpanel in my monitor. I'm still waiting to here from DigitalWW to get a replacement touchpanel for it.
I've also got an MKV Jetta and am contemplating a carputer setup of my own. Mostly Mac Mini in the glove box and more importantly putting a 7" touchscreen where the diffuser is (as the tray which sits in there in europe is like $40, i figured it'd be nice to have the screen simply fold down into the dash when not in use, much lower key then a head unit). anywho i'll be keeping an eye on your progress!
That'd be pretty tough to pull off, you'd need to do alotta cutting. You could do a motorized headunit type, but even then, I think it puts the screen too high to be practical, espescially if you go touchscreen. would be nice to see though.Originally Posted by VWNDAHS
