Hi Steve, I think I will use your way in the end since I'll need to power secondary PSU's for USB hub for instance.

I don't know yet where I'll mount my CarPC. But I suspect it'll be under passenger seat.

As far as software I actually used Photoshop believe it or not

I was going to use Visio latest version but couldn't find a copy, so I had nothing to do, pretty much, and went to do it in photoshop. You can still do it if you like, and then use image map areas to link to vendors if you like.

I use slightly different approach however: http://www.brainsights.com/wrxtear/carputer/, I have a table with costs and links to vendors and diagram on the right. And on the left-hand side I have all vendor logos (except software). I am planning to add URLs to vendors, too.

I was hoping it was in Visio !! Not to worry mate, i'll start a fresh.

I am in the process of mounting mine in the boot. With all of my install it was important not to add ANY holes to the car. I found a way of mounting a panel in the boot of the vehicle behind the seats.

It uses 4 bolts in total, if you need further instructions of how i did it, send me an email and i'll send more detailed instructions.

Next step is to get it covered in the same fabric as the rest of the boot. It will be a good sized mounting platform for all the CarPc components. Also less tempting to be stolen or kicked if its under a seat. This way all the components, PSU, CarPC, USB Hubs etc can all be neatly mounted next to each other on one easily removeable panel.

Yeah Steve, I will definitely have something to ask you! The way you're doing it in the trunk is what I originally was planning to do. But I am trying make the whole thing less permanent. For instance if I travel to NYC or Boston etc, if I leave car on the street overnight, I want to unplug my pc box and take it with me, so I am trying to have it under the seat.

Additionally, I know I am going to want to change OS all the time, install new things, so I want to take computers home often to tweak it.

On the other note, as far as my update goes, I got set back a little

I didn't know I had to modify my panel (see attached) it doesn't fit vertically, so probably I'll spend tomorrow night trimming it. Anyone else got bumped like this?

f1vlad - How do you mean, the aluminium bezel is mounted behind the main console. If so, this is how have mine. If it aligned right, it looks OK. I don't know if it was designed to actually fit inside the console. Looking at Mechatroniks site, it looks in the photos as if he's sits behind also, bit difficult to tell though.

I wouldn't worry about shaving the console to fit, because if you come to sell the car, you will have to buy a whole new console as it will need quite a lot taking off i think. Would it be worth seeing if the aluminium bezel can be machined a bit smaller ?

Even with mine in the boot it will be mounted with wing nuts or similar for quick removal.

Actually I found a way to do it without damaging exterior of that plate! I might only use dremel to cut rims on top and button for the sake of bringing LCD closer.

Can you show pics of your install?

yeah I'd like to see some close up Steve, I couldn't find picture that shows exactly how LCD sitting in with the dash. Your site is very nice and informative otherwise!

Good news is I bought a nice dremel kit and already trimmed my front plate! The way I did it is if I put stock radio back on it is not even going to be visible. I'll do more detail work tomorrow and will show you guys what it looks like! Tomorrow/after-tomorrow should be done.

I can answer that for you,

That is the windows boot screen. I know because I asked him this not two days ago. He was very helpful and sent me the background .psd file and the boot screet bmp.
