    2001 Chevrolet Impala Complete Replacement

Right now I do not have any pictures but plan to have pictures up by the end of the month.

I am taking a Xenarc 700TSV and putting it in place of the extisting radio.

The current spec line up consists of:

    Hardware:

    • Xenarc 700TSV
    • M2-ATX Power Supply
    • Cubid Black case
    • K06 slim line dvd burner
    • GM - Factory Alarm Dinger adapter "Deleted, decided I did not want the annoying dings anymore"
    • Via MII10000 Motherbord
    • Dell Truemobile 1150 USB adapter
    • Microsoft Streets and Trips 06' USB GPS Receiver
    • Sony XM2200 Two channel amplifer (RMS 200*2)
    • Sony 12p5 The red sony's 12's with the tornado cones
    • 4 - Streetwires 12" Black lights inside the sub boxes "Blown did not feel like replacing"
    • 40 GB Hitachi HD
    • 512MB DDR
    • Sony 10-Disc FM Modulated MP3 CD changer
    • Added Visteon HDZ300 HD Radio tuner with MJS Gadgets cable
    • Added Soundblaster Audigy ZS "allowed for 4point surround and a mic input for the HD Tuner"
    Software:

    • Windows XP Pro W/sp3
    • Streets and Trips 2006 GPS
    • Power DVD
    • FM Tuner Software from MJSGadgets
I have installed the computer and now the sound is working like a charm. The gps works like charm also. I use the touch screen for all functions, and have a backup keyboard for in-depth address entry. I was going to as stock look as possible from any vantage point, and I think that I acheived that goal.

That is about it for right now. A couple of planned actions will include Creating or using a sofware to make the screen more user firendly. Installing a false floor for the truck to tidy up around the spare tire compartment (which is still usable). And installing neons under the dash and in the trunk.

Some Issues I found consists of:
    • No sound from the onboard sound out of the rear and sub headphone outputs (using the mic and line in as outs) Solved use driver 650b from via. Not used now because I use the SB
    • Software decisions for usability (A big decision)
    • Actual computer placement, since the dvd drive is in the case.On hump under seat
    • FM reception problem, maybe a second sharkfin antenna There is a wire on the Factory harness that needs power for the rear window antenna. This threw me for a loop for a while. I just looped it from the constant pulled in for the screen.
    • Low frequency noise when connected to the computer and the sub amplifier (Possible Ground Loop Isolator)Poor Grounding: grounded both amps and computer together to fix.
If any body has a answers to these issues then please reply.

Fortunately I do not have to modify my dash visually right now, contingent on the computer placement; I was thinking on the hump under the armrest. O by the way I have bench seats not the bucket with the center console. Pictures to follow.

    Sorry

I lost all my pictures when my main computer crashed. I will, however, when I get some time. Take the car back apart and take some more pictures. Regretably I cannot take any more pictures of my box assembly in the trunk being built.

I do have plans to delve back into my car full force. I need to change the turnon wire from the ignition to the am pturn on that is one the power supply for the computer.

I also havce plans to put a computer based OBDII code reader and design software so that if an engine code does appear the car will anounce it. It will also send an email upon access to the internet.

The design is not flashy at all. I can take a couple of quick finished pics if you would like.

I wanted the design to look as stock as possible. I have actually gotten pulled over by a state trooper for speeding and he bought it when I said that it is my radio/gps.

Ok, now I have Street and Trips working nicely. I have the sound working nicely (4-channel). I have The touchscreen, WIFI, and Media remote working nicely.

I am working on reading the diagnostic information from OBDII.
I plan on taking the car aparts and reworking the wiring for better interaction and a little more room.

Maybe, if I hae time, I will start developing a front end. I want a real front end, not just a skin though. If you have any suggestions in laguages. I have never created DLL's or much. I do know VB.net and C++, AJAX, ASP, and a couple of others.

I don't have any info that can help you but would love to see some pics of your completed install and where you're at with the project. I've got an '01 Imp LS and am thinking about how to get some MP3 functionality into it without going crazy.
But it'd be great to see what you worked out.

    PIcs

I would like to see some pics too because we have very similar cars and when you're done and I get a pic , we'll probably have similar setups.

I have a load of pics. I will post them up tomorrow. There not professional pics, but they get the point across. My install is pretty simple compared to others. I will also be making a Show of your project thread. My goal was to get a stock look and feel. I did that because I was pulled over by state trooper because he thought I was playing my music to loud. When I got pulled over I flipped a switch and I could not turn it past normal volume. He also believed me when I told him that the "GPS/Navigation Unit" was stock.

Once everything is put in an running you cannot see anything out of the ordinary even from inside the car. Only if you go to look in the trunk. No computer, speakers, amps, nothing. Keep an eye out for the "show off" thread.
