    Citroen XM Saloon mk2

Ok this is my third project, and once again its another (real) Citroen car, and once again an XM.

I got it 3 days ago for a small fee and I am happy with it, but the stock sterio has to go and a car pc it has to be.

    Planned project is:

    1) Check cars road-worthy-ness and sort insurance etc

    2) Sort out any little faults (currently clutch slips in 5th)

    3) Fit a decent alarm / engine start / pager / sms system (self build)

    4) Re-do the interior in leather from donor vehicles

    5) Remove the middle and rear silencer, replace with single silencer, leaving space for the car PC to be mounted UNDER the vehicle in a removeable pod

    6) Uprate speaker system for car pc, possibly from 4.0 to either 4.1 or 5.1

    7) relax to prepare for the next one!

As its a true euro car, IE I dont think _any_ are on the roads in the states, heres some links to pics of model, and some videos.

This is a mk2, like my new one

This is a mk 1, better rear spoiler, classic single spoke wheel

    And this on handling....

Which makes you wonder how I put the current one I drive into 3 trees on a bend at less than 40 mph.....

(incidentally, the test cars reg number puts it in the same batch as my first owned)

Obviously photos of my car and lots of bits to follow.

Do you have any updates on carpc? I currently planning on putting CARPC in there, but i don't like touchsceen much so i wonder what to use for controling it? I would like seatlt installation - only LCD under the original stero cover (i would use 2DIN cover from MK1 model).

what car? I cant believe its a xm, not that many around!

shame really as they were damn good, but mis-management by Citroen, ridiculous poor staff training at the dealerships, and bad press killed a marvel of a machine.

For more pis etc join digital-car.co.uk, thats where the thread went after i stopped posting new stuff on here.

I know how special the car is - owned one, now i'm going to buy another (3.0 V6 16V (S1) exclusive with AT or more preferably 2.5TD with AT and have engine swaped for V6 24V (S2) - i'm not sure which one it will be - best thing is that both already have beige leather interior) and put CarPC in it.

Shame that there is no V8 option and no double glazing for better sound isolation. alspo i would like XM to have bench front seats and not separated seats that tree things (and maybe also RWD) would make it absolutely ideal car for me.

What most bothers me is how to control carpc, becuase i want just display, no buttons, no touchscreen control preferably.

Beige interior in full leather is sweet.

the mk1 3.0v6 is a 12v engine, I drive one daily. the 24v is more problematic, the AT is a ****box. And I drive one daily....

If you could get an mk1 12v 3l with a 5spd manual box, you would have heaven, but you would have to convert it yourself...

I just had to repair the box, oh the mk1 has a zf4hp18, its a nightmare of a box, the mk2 had zf4hp20, its a nightmare with sharp knives in, if its got the other AL4 gearbox its a nightmare, with knives, and you have a broken leg....

either way, all XM automatic boxes are a nightmare....

the 2.5td is a ***** to work on, the 2.1td much better and easier and very very reliable, if you get a 2.5, make them do the timing belt before you buy it, get proof its done, because its a job you do not want to do.

but i would not change it lol
(unless for a manual box, i'd keep same car)

And before anyone starts citroen knocking, the unreliable gearbox is not made by Citroen, its made by ZF(who supply bmw, mercedes, saab, volvo...), and its unreliable as it never gets the right maintenance, go look at what other cars have the 4hp18, and they are all in forums crying over a bust gearbox... its not a poor box, but its easily upset, and most owners have in the past upset them, expect to best friends with your auto tranny repair shop...

I can get 3.0 manual, but i hate manual transmisons, i know that ZF4speed in XM is not best AT in the world, but it is still AT

The one i had before had ZF4 AT and had NO problems with it. Overaly the car had no problems and was 100% reliable, but 2.0i without turbo was incredibly slow.

Also i want to make my new XM a little custom - something like this http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2551/...b46de8cf_o.jpg (not everyone's taste i know ) i'm thinking of using "3d space navigator" for carpc control, but i'm still not sure where to put it in interor. Or maybe if i had luck i would use original idrive from bmw.

like the pic, but its a s2 with poor steering wheel thats just not citroen, peugeot steering wheel imho, and yes its not to everyones taste but it would suit me. /maybe orange instead of red...

Manuals are more economical and faster if you learn how to drive them, much less trouble, and more hp to the wheels.

maybe where ever you are AT's are better looked after, in europe they are abused and neve flushed, when mine went 3 weeks ago i was quoted $3000 for a rebuild, $1850 for an exchange unit, and i found on in the states for $800 but they would not ship it, I had to fix it myself, the car cost me $1000 and is the most expensive xm i have bought, I have had them for $100 to $600 before, my estate/break/stationwagon was only $725 and that had morette triple headlights. (which are now on my s1v6)

Oneday I may find the citroen bodykit.....but i think all of them are gone from the uk and maybe only one or two left in europe.

I'm uk where abouts are you?

I would love the musketier bodykit, i'd be happy with a citroen one....

but it will never be in the uk so nothing i can do.
maybe when the big citroen show comes to the uk, i may be in with a chance.
