Just spend a lot of time reading these forums before you really get started. Quick answers - are yes, you can get a laptop to display an all kinds of monitors. 2. do get the stats (i.e. rpm, km/h, etc) depends on your cars computer. Being a 96+ car it will most likely be and OBD-II car, and you can get a cable to hook into the cars/trucks computer.

Really, don't rush this - it can be an involved process. If you want to buy a complete working system off ebay, it is more expensive but less work. If you want to do it yourself, read all the FAQ sections. There is a lot of great info there, and people will be more willing to help you if you look like you helped yourself first by reading everything you could.

i plan on reading and reading but im still in the desmantaling and salvage stage, but all my money is being tied else where right now i have a 98 f150 and i went to replace the rusted out dust shield fo0r the brakes and found that there are no brakes at all in the front so $350 for that, anyway back to the truck that were talking about, the truck is too old to have computers all through it so it possible to get all my states of the motor on a screan. sry if seem to be getting ahead of my self but im just interested.

read up on OBD-II, and understand when it became available and why you can't use it on the 84, but can on the 98

I applaud you for wanting to do all of this and for being gungho about it all, but instead of just posting all of these questions, I'd recomend spending the time researching and reading. You'll learn a lot more.

I'd really suggest that you calm down a bit and read what's available to you on this site.

There's a TON of information here, just waiting for you to find it.
