shaggy or red, have you done anything with the overhead unit right above the rear view mirror, showing MPG, gallons used, estimated driving distance, outside temp, etc...? I've been looking to hook that up to a carputer, or modify the LCD to show all the options at once.

i have had that same thought, but have not done anything yet. Mine only does temperature, heck i'd be happy if i could just upgrade it to do all the things yours does.

my thought was not to connect it to my computer but to a microcontroler, so that thing will be avalible when my computer is off, i do a lot of short driving which it doesnt make sence to have the computer come up, and if i wanted to send data from the computer to the lcd i guess i could use serial imput to the microconrtoler... well those are my 2 cents

I've posted in Engine Management, OBD-II, Engine Diagnostics, etc... I'm too lazy to read the forum rules for cross thread posting. It's titled Chevy Blazer 2001 - Overhead Display. 45 views, and no replies.

    I'm resurrecting my old thread:

After a year with out my Blazer [blown motor] It's finally back with a new engine and I'm more than excited to get my carputer back in it. But a new engine means it's time for some new hardware! Also because my cellar flooded and my old atom board is now kinda picky when it wants to boot, so I'll make that my bench pc. I just ordered:
    - voomPC2 [it has room for my old m2-atx, which i could never fit in my old case]
    - ZOTAC IONITX-F-E Intel Atom 330 w/ NVIDIA ION
    - 4gb's of ram to populate the board

The rest is already in the truck. So the plan is "simple" this time around, put the parts together, add bluetooth via my hacked linksys bt100 [added an external antenna], Wifi via the atheros card that comes with the ZOTAC board, touch screens already in the dash [needs some bondo, that'll come with time], plug in the GPS.

Software: spin up LinuxICE for a bit to test everything out quickly and easily. If I'm happy then time to load up gentoo and then reconfig the software.

    Goal 1: hardware put together
    Goal 2: LinuxICE installed
    Goal 3: LinuxICE config'd
    Goal 4: put in car
Goal 5: enjoy for a while

Hey glad to hear that you got your blazer running again (never knew it was out of commission) best of of luck getting everything running again (PC wise) I actually just got my system in the process of re installation after some spineless @$$hole decided to steal my audio equipment while it was in the shop for my second deer collision (in as many months) and I have been without any tunes in the ride for over 6 months. I can't even begin to tell you how many stupid little problems I have been having. I didn't expect to have any software issues as the turd only really took the audio equipment and personal property, but I am having all sorts of issues...

Are these projects ever really done? Oh I forgot to mention that I built a new enclosure for my setup as the last one was way too inconvenient. I can't wait to show you the pics man.

    good but not entirely happy

Goal 1: hardware put together - done
Goal 2: LinuxICE installed - done
    Goal 3: LinuxICE config'd - in progress
Goal 4: put in car - done
Goal 5: enjoy for a while - more on this below

So I've installed LinuxICE, and it's a really nice package, I do like the ease of ubuntu. but there are some thing's I'm not thrilled about [network manager being one]

my biggest problem with my install is I HATE the location of my LCD. [I also broke my touch screen putting it in] The screen is just too low for me, and it's barely readable when the suns out.

So as much as i love my 10.4" i think I'm going to find an 8" touch screen lcd. Delete my center vents [ MAYBE relocate them, but probably just cap them off] and move the lcd up a few inches. and add a bit of a visor. hopefully with the brighter screen, and visor it will be more read able, and I'm going down in size to allow me to move the screen.

<OVER AMBITIOUS PART> if I'm so inclined I'd LIKE to put the monitor on a track so that it can slide up. this isn't a hidden monitor [like bugbytes ibug] but just a way to get it higher and more visable. so i'd like it to slide straight up so the top edge sits 4-5 inches above the dash. I have a general idea how to do this, but I'm really unsure about it at this point, so thoughts, links, photo's are all welcome! </OVER AMBITIOUS PART>

Added OpenStreetMaps maps to NavIT, works much better with maps.

Now to figure out how to make bookmarks and do routing.

I'm getting happier as I go along. using a touch pad mouse is getting old, need a TOUCH SCREEN
