Mine isnt an S4, the S-Line just means it has the sports package (interior and external trim, bigger wheels). An S4 has a larger powerplant, and cost about 30k more

My BMW M-Technic is the same thing, its a special edition 325is. Looks just like a M3, just without the bigger engine.

I got too many tickets in my 20s, all a bigger engine does for me is get me in trouble. The each have about 200hp and that is more than enough for me these days.

Yeah - I know about the larger power plant and what not...just didn't know they had a sport package for the A line.

But then again, I've had to ween myself off of looking at the audis for while...

Sweet! I'm excited to find someone else doing the same thing. I too have a '06 A4. I'm pouring through these forums, and I'm STILL trying to figure out what to do with the steering controls and in-dash LCD (displays CD/FM info). I'd like to still use them...

I have actually sold the audi. But here is what I can tell you:

    1) steering wheel controls. PAC makes 2 units you can use together to convert the signals from your steering wheel controls to IR. You can then plug a USB IR receiver into your carputer and get the signals. PAC-SWI and PAC-CAM are the part names I believe. mp3car sells them.

    2) multifunction display in the dash. This thing is controlled via the CAN-BUS and I could never find a way to get information to it.

I also ended up making a new bezel for my audi a while back and never posted pics. I took the front plastic from the stock symphony II radio and mounted the LCD in it. I kept the knob and buttons on the right side. Hooked them up to a phidget package and had a volume knob and a few control buttons. Worked pretty well to satisfy my wifes demand that "the damn radio just work like a radio"

If I get some free time Ill try to post some pics.

    Good Luck.

I did more research last night, and as best as I cen tell, I can do pretty much everything I want to do through the CAN-BUS. There seems to be a lot of options out there, but the two more capable options seem to be the Mongoose from Drew Technologies and VAG-COM+hardware from Ross-Tech. Both seem to be an integrated dongle/cable solution that plugs into the diagnostics port just under your steering wheel.

My dilemna is that I can't seem to find anything to help me get started. I'm a developer with a background in mostly Microsoft technologies and have written a number of touch-screen applications using both eMbedded C++ and the Compact Framework. If I have to, I'll "hack" and "reverse engineer", but I'm having a hard time understanding that someone else hasn't at least tried this before. I've read some posts from those that claim to, but they either are trying to sell me something or are embelishing their own capabilities so they can't share there work at the risk of being "found out".

I'm happy to share source code for anything I accomplish. My only real requirement for this solution is that I have to be able to remove my carPC and return the stock Bose Symphony unit once I decide to sell the car.

Thanks for the thought on the radio buttons BTW...I'm certain my gf will be thankfull! Can't wait to see the pics...

Installing Omnifi Media Server in 2006 Audi A4

So, I have a convertible 2006 Audi A4 Cabriolet 3.0 quattro AT5 and want to install a mobile media server in it and connect it to the factory audio system. Since you took apart your audi system, I was hoping you might know a little about the connections on the back. I have the Premium Audio Package w/ Bose Premium Sound System and thinking about trying to add the Omnifi Mobile Digital Media Server w/ 802.11 wireless adapter
I wanted to connect this to the current sound system in my Audi and don't know what kind of connections are available for me to use on the Audi head unit. Any ideas on where i can find more info on the Audi sound sytem and its connections. I'm planning on running Openfi on the media player instead of the busted and crappy jaunt that Omnifi supplies.

Any help on understanding the Audi unit and it's connections are greatly appreciated.

with the bose system (which is what I have) you pretty much have an input going to the 2 amps that car has...you have: front left and right; rear left and right, with a common connecting them all. The switched power gets 12 volts from wherever you decide to pick it up. That probably makes no sense right now...but read those links..they helped alot.
