LOL! Not sure what exactly your car was but the 1987-1991 was the second generation for the camry . The first was released only in japan from 1983-1986 i believe. But yeah these cars are TANKS.
I say go for it.
We used to have a 92 Camry (2nd gen, same model era) and that thing was bullet proof. Camry's are bloody hard to fault
Only reason we don't still have it is we wrote it off![]()

Might've been a 91, I can't remember
But definately a second gen.
Wow holy crap!! Thats quite a list! I hope it works out for you! Just make sure that every mod you do keeps the car running! What I mean is don't try to do everything at once! You will probably run out of cash and the car will be in pieces haha (but it looks like you already know that). I have a 90' camry right now that Im working on too. It is pretty old and has 273k miles on it (it has also been accross the U.S. 3 times), but runs just like it's new (albeit I only get like 25mpg for the 2.0 I4). I have only added small stuff like a nice sound system and a foglight mod (where the blinkers were) since I got it as a hand-me-down, nothing like what your are planning on doing. I would really like to see it all when your done, it might inspire me to do something to mine (although with soooooo many miles who knows)!
Yeah... i hope i dont run out of money.... lol that would suck
I havent much started anything yet, beyond whats already in it. I do know i like to dream big... Im thinking i might buy my dad's old van off him so that i have wheels while i completely rebuild my camry from the ground up....

Hey great idea! I have a '90 Camry with the 2vz-fe engine (hand-me-down) and I love it too! The engine is in good shape, but it's been through 3 tranny's though. The mechanic who fixed the CV joint forgot to replace the fluid in the first one! Been rebuilt twice and put into reverse going 40 ever since![]()
I love it though. It gets like 21 mpg, and would be really quick if it weren't for the tranny. I too have that sentimental feeling about it![]()
haha! Well I think what Im going to do is buy a new (well ok used) car and use that as my commuter. Then play with my 90 camry just to learn about engines and whatnot. What I want to do to it is completely strip it down, bore out the cylinders, if I can, and reinforce the hell out of everything. Then install a turbocharger and intercooler and performance parts all around! haha, and then to finish it off, add dress-up parts and tube jackets all over. haha, but this will not happen for quite a while... my job sucks and I make peanuts. But anywho, a man can wish!

Ok, question for you; What do you plan on doing for the re-fab of the dash and relocation of the environment controls? Seems like there is not really any other good location for the environmental controls... Anyway could you photoshop what you plan? I want to see this.

Ive been thinking about this quite a bit. Im not sure where i want to put them.. I have the cable run setup, so my options are much more limited as is. I think I will be replacing it all with the automated solinoid driven setup and moving then down with custom dials and what not. Possibly even integrate it into the computer...
