A few other things that I've done... I thought it would be cool if the screen dimmed when the headlights are switched on, like OEM displays. So I mounted a relay on some proto board and connected it to the COM2 header on the motherboard. The relay switches on with the headlights (from the "illumination" signal from the cars original stereo wiring) and connects the DTR and CTS pins together. I then use the program from this thread to auto-adjust the gamma. Works fine so far!

Relay and header pins soldered to board:

Plugs directly onto COM2 header on mobo:

I managed to avoid a horrible accident too, somehow I splashed solder onto the hard drive's PCB and didn't notice! I wondered why the HDD wasn't detecting after I put the system back in the car. Then I noticed the solder blob! Luckily it hadn't shorted anything important and removing the solder allowed the HDD to work again! Whew!

OK, now for the bad things! I am having some problems with my WinTV-PVR-USB2 tuner. It seems that every time I resume from hibernation, or even do a cold reboot, I have to un-plug and re-plug it before it will work. This is very annoying, since the USB plug is buried in the boot under a heap of stuff! I found that it works sometimes (but not all the time) if I plug it in via a USB hub. I've tried devcon enable/disable before/after hibernate but to no avail. I am running XP SP1a, I have heard the SP2 has better USB support but I haven't actually heard of that fixing anyones problem on these forums. Surely there are other people with this tuner out there? Another problem I am having is Map Monkey giving error message after resume (I think, I only see it when I switch back to GPS), but if you click OK then it goes away and MM keeps working fine!? Those are the main problems I am battling at the moment. Most everything else has been working OK, but it's only been running in the car since monday...

WOW! You are lucky...had that happened to me, I'm sure my MB would have been an melted, ill-smelling plastic heap after my first attempted boot. :-)

Great work on the case, internals, and screen bezel. I also previously found the piano hinge-based metal break you saw on Google and plan to build one for myself as well. Nice to know that it works well.

Hi, thanks for your interest! I haven't done much on the car lately, just sorting out a few software annoyances, etc. Still can't get the WinTV USB2 working without disconnecting and reconnecting the it's power and/or USB after bot up, which annoyed me so much that I have just been ignoring it. Haven't wanted the radio anyway. I've been meaning to make a full post describing the whole setup, how it's wired and what I'm running but I haven't got around to it yet. Might do that tomorrow
