I'm kinda hindered from going the same route as you did with your screen because my radio trim is woodgrain. Limits a lot of fabrication, but I'm still thinking I would say F88K it, and do the DO.
Just bondo, sand, prime and paint.....and then get dash trim kits to put the luxury back in it......till I have the courage to say that here's what mine would look like after sanding the edges....

It seems of a higher calibre than my first attempt!

Can't you buy wood grain vinyl or something on eBay that you could put over your bondo'd stuff. I don't know how cheesy it looks, I have never seen it in person.

Or you can just built the entire thing out of wood! Wood has wood grain! :lol3:

Wood grain can be removed, it's just a pain in the ***. I had to do it on several pieces when I painted the trim pieces on my interior. Lots and lots of sanding.

For just that single piece you have pictured above, I don't think it would be that hard at all really. It would definitely be a time consuming process, but it's very doable.

Another option is to make a mold of it and make your own piece.

Or finally...probably the easiest option. Just call a dealership and order a new bezel that isn't woodgrain.

If you don't want to mess up your wood grain because you actually like how it looks...that's another thing. I guess you could always outsource and have it professionally painted to match after you're done, or just read up a lot on reproducing wood grain patterns.

Warning for 56k? How about warning for anyone with less than 1Gb of RAM. I can't view this thread on my 512M laptop with IE, have to use my 1Gb work machine. Had to abort on the laptop once the commit charge hit 1.3Gb with only 512Mb of real RAM. Took me ages to shut it all down.
Nice job though, looks very neat.

Yeah my computer definately slows down when I view my thread!

Page file goes to 1Gb for me, since I only have 512 of RAM on my lappy. But on my desktop with 4Gb of RAM it seems fine!

Thanks. The case took a while to design. I have the AutoCAD 2007 files if anybody wants them.
